He is a professor at the Department of Service Management and Service Studies at Lund University, Sweden. His research concerns a wide range of subjects regarding tourism, transport, climate change and sustainability. Neoclassic economic theory suggests global market integration as a strategy to reduce poverty. In line with this paradigm, an increasing number of developing countries have focused on tourism to generate foreign exchange earnings and to meet rising workforce pressure. Coastlines in particular, have been at the forefront of tourist infrastructure development.

This is just one of the big questions that the author attempts to address within the book. Many readers of the Journal of Transport Geography will find this book interesting and provocative as it tends to open up many questions for further work and debate.
